Do you remember, way back when, sitting mindlessly filling in a page with colors and watching something bland become bold?
Aimlessly, moving across a page with the smell of crayons swirling?
Struggling to stay inside the lines???????
Those were the days.
And life goes full circle, and once again, we are back.
There is a craze for coloring books for adults. Yes, for adults. It started slowly, but gradually gathered speed and now the books are everywhere. EVERYWHERE And there are so many types, themes, styles and topics. Barnes and Noble alone currently has 2,102 books available online. And you can get the books in the drug store, the craft store, department stores, the hardware store, the 24 hour minimart!
And why not? With time at a premium, and information overload, the slow and quiet creation of a picture from a template, where you don’t have to really think, is calming, centering and steadying.
So, what better way to start Summer Camp week than with coloring books. No thought required, except which color do I use? or do I use crayons? felt tips? colored pencils? And what joy to find coloring books full of cats! And there is so much to choose from. With approximately 26 cat coloring books at Barnes and Noble there are a range of styles to confuse you.
Creative Cats Coloring Book by Marjorie Sarnat is part of the Creative Haven series published by Dover and contains more than 30 cats in a variety of designs and they are delightful. Described as for “the experienced colorist” (really???) you can play about and create really beautiful pictures. The images are printed on one side of each page so there will be no bleed through of color and with serrated pages you can remove your page to work on, and display. With just the right amount of detail to keep you focused the creations you make will be artsy and rewarding. So go grab some colors and get coloring!
