World Lion Day And The Terrifying Reason It is Needed

World Lion Day and the Terrifying Reason it Is Needed

August 10 is a special day on the calendar at Cat-Opedia central.

Not just because it is a special person’s birthday.

It also happens to be World Lion Day.

A day to celebrate the King of the Jungle.

August 10 Is World Lion Day

The magnificent creature with a mane and deep amber eyes.

Unfortunately, the day was created for a terrifying reason.

100 years ago there were 200,000 lions.

Any idea how many there are today?

A guess?

20,000.

Take a moment and think about it.

Given that loss in 100 years there will be no lions.

No lions.

Think about it.

No lions.

World Lion Day And The Terrifying Reason It is Needed

Hunting, poaching, war, loss of  their habitat.

Yes, we humans are exacting a terrible toll on these magnificent creatures.

So, like with the tigers a day has been created to raise awareness, shake the lethargy and apathy and hope to galvanize the public into not only supporting causes that help to protect, but also to start a dialogue.

Make sure that the numbers of lions lost isn’t a surprise to you. Or anyone you know.

Raise awareness that the ecosystem needs lions. And tigers. And all the endangered cats.

They are all endangered.

Imagine a world without any lions.

Think about it.

What is the world going to be like without these Kings of the Jungle?
