It is the high summer and fire season hasn’t just started, it has been going for some time. News reports are full of coverage of the numerous fires raging throughout California: north, south and middle. The damage is beyond what you can imagine and it is anticipated by the close of fire season the area burned will be greater than 1 million acres. And the Santa Ana winds which bring hot, dry winds and an the flames haven’t even started yet.

Thousands of homeowners have had to evacuate their homes, and who knows how many won’t have a home to return to. Along with the human displacement there are the pets and wildlife. While built structures burn, natural environments are being destroyed and displacing creatures that live there.

How To Help Animals Affected By The California Wildfires

Last year during the various fires we posted where you can make donations to help those who are caring for pets and other animals. The lists were quite long and possibly not so helpful. Decision had to be made as to where to give your money.  However, given the level of destruction and number of communities affected this time it might be easier for donations to be made to a single source. The ASPCA is reporting that they are on the ground in Lake and Mendecino counties in northern California and are currently caring for 2,500 animals. They are asking for donations to continue their work. Read about it here.

Obviously there are others caring for animals. But accessing information is a bit difficult given the scale of the emergency. As the situation isn’t under control and changing daily a donation to the ASPCA might just be the best way to help.
